What A Load Of Cobblers - The Art of Making Shoes
Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin... and now you can add your own name to that list of illustrious shoemakers, with a visit to I Can Make Shoes. For just like it says on the can, this Hackney Downs project teaches you how to make your own shoes. It was launched in 2010 by Aussie native, Amanda Luisa. Her mission? To find a way for people to make shoes without needing heaving machinery or specialist equipment. She runs courses where you can learn to make sandals, heels or flat, all in a day, from £75 - much cheaper than Manolos then.

A Thinker’s Toolbox
What do the world’s brightest philosophers, artists and creative minds have in common? A really great pencil case, of course. Now thanks to Bloomsbury institution the School of Life (co-founded by philosopher, author and broadcaster Alain de Botton, who doubtless has a lovely pencil case himself) you can join them. They’ve just released a new range of notebooks, pencils and cards that promise to inspire and enthuse you – as well as looking pretty chic on your desk. We love their ‘Mood Books’, which come complete with beautiful paintings on the endpapers, as well as their ‘School of Thought’ notebooks, which come in sets for budding stoics, existentialists or, dare we say it, pessimists. Combine that with the ‘Literary Pencil Set’ and you’re ready to take on the world… or at least, that Friday morning meeting.
