The Icing on the Cake
The Great British Bake Off is back on our screens this week, and if you’re looking to get involved in a spot of cooking yourself, then why not sign up for a course with London’s finest cake decorator, Peggy Porschen. Porschen has made wedding cakes for Kate Moss and Stella McCartney, a birthday cake for Antony Hopkins’ 70th, and cakes and cookies for the likes of Elton John, Damien Hirst, Sting and Madonna. So it’s fair to say she knows a bit about turning out an impressive tea-time treat. Her courses range from long-term wedding cake diplomas to lessons in cupcake baking and decorating, or making beautiful sugar flowers – check peggyporschenacademy.com for further details. On your marks, get set, bake!
A G&T in the Garden
Kew Gardens is the world's largest collection of living plants, but if that isn't enough to make you consider a trip to south-west London, then their summer festival Plantasia might be. Events run throughout the summer, including a barefoot walk, a healing plant walking tour and a gin-and-tonic garden. Located in the glass house, the gin-and-tonic garden serves a selection of botanical drinks – both non-alcoholic and alcoholic – which you can enjoy whilst being surrounded by beautiful botanical plants, created by The Gin Garden team, who specialise in creating seasonal drinks in visually stunning settings.
