Famous Pencils On Show at Paul Smith
There’s no doubt that laptops, tablets and smartphones have revolutionised the way we work. Sometimes though, it’s nice to pay homage to a tool that’s stood the test of time – the humble pencil. The Secret Life of the Pencil is an exhibition that seeks to do just that, comprising a collection of pencil images that link back to some of the 20th and 21st centuries’ greatest illustrations, photographs, artworks, novels, cartoons, graphics and more, including the pencils of Stephen Fry, Sir James Dyson, Anish Kapoor and others. The exhibition will be held at Paul Smith at No. 9 Albemarle St until June 3rd, and prints will be auctioned off in aid of Children in Crisis via online auction store Paddle8.

Photo London at Somerset House
It’s the first ever Photo London this week, a unique photography event at Somerset House that combines over 70 exhibitors, including the world’s leading galleries and publishers. There’ll be talks, music sessions and book signings, but our top pick is to visit the Diane Arbus stand by the Timothy Taylor gallery. An American photographer famed for her photographs of marginal people such as dwarfs, giants, nudists and circus performers, as well as her surreal images of normal people, her work is worth seeking out along with Sebastião Salgado’s Genesis in Platinum and a specially commissioned installation by German photographer Rut Blees Luxemburg in the courtyard.
