Foraging with John the Poacher
Meet the man foraging for fresh ingredients up and down the Lea Valley and Hackney Marshes. John the Poacher supplies ingredients to some of east London's hippest bars and breweries, cafés and restaurants — all of it foraged from local land. Jonathan Cook, spends his days foraging in east London for herbs and salad leaves, mushrooms, fruits and flowers, or fishing, or hunting for wood pigeon and rabbit, before trading his spoils with local pubs, restaurants and food companies for meals and pints of dark beer. For some time now, John has been showing people where and how to identify edible foods that grow on our lands and in our cities. Join John for this guided walk of discovery during this winter, before gathering in one of Johns local pubs for a mulled wine and some christmas cheer. Meeting at Aho Studio, Hackney Wick, Sunday 10th December 10.30-11am. £35 Rsvp via Meet-up in advance or directly via Paypal to or £40 cash on the day. Limited to 20 spaces.
The Giant Cheese Board
London has gone cheese mad… we’ve had a cheese street, a cheese festival and now a Giant Cheese Board is coming to London with unlimited cheese and mulled wine. The giant immersive cheese board will be erected in Studio 338 in Greenwich this December with some of the best artisan cheeses from across Europe, including a huge baked Camembert. You will be able to roam the board, eating as much cheese (and biscuits) served from the man-size mice as you can handle while sipping on mulled wine – oh and vegans they’ve got you covered too. They’ll be serving up cheesecake for those who haven’t already stuffed themselves silly, and there'll be double-size fireplaces to snuggle up in front of when the food coma hits and music into the early hours of the morning. Sat 16th- Sun 17th December, Sat 23rd December, Studio 338, 338 Boord St, London SE10 0PF
